[...] Got back from my trip to FISL 8.0 in Brazil and I had an insanely good time. After my rather tortuous trip, I checked into the hotel, and headed straight to FISL where I met with Sulamita (my tour guide and the queen of sarcasm) and the Intel chaps. I spent three days and took back a number of very cool memories and thoughts, which include: [...]

Spend 10 hours sitting in it with nothing to do, no money and no food and you will truly begin to hate Heathrow. It's gotta be the only place in the world where you can buy a $5000 pen and not pay tax but you can't find a working vending machine to save your life.

[...] Jono, you hate Heathrow, I hate San Paolo airport. I ended up missing my flight even though I was at my gate two hours ahead of time. Turns out they changed the gate and by the time I was about to board a plane to who knows where (they didn’t check my ticket when I boarded) my name was called. By the time I fought through the crowd coming into the plane my plane had taken off. I managed to get on a flight four hours later. The real hero in all this is Juliano Bittencourt who happily came to pick me up at the later time. I met him at the Bossa conference and I have to say the hospitality I have received in Brazil is top notch even if their airports aren’t. [...]

2 things (of course :D ) 1) What the hell is a "plug socket"? It's either a mains socket or a mains plug. You plug a plug into a socket. A plug socket makes no sense!
2) It's hard to provide mains power where there isn't the cabling infrastructure - like open areas etc. It's really costly to dig up floors to run in sockets. It's not like wireless where a wall or ceiling mounted point can provide people access for miles around. Virgin had to buy whole new trains in order to provide power to people's seats.

Given the coronary-inducing price of wireless access at Heathrow (and, well, everywhere else in England), I'd say the only people who can actually afford to whip out a laptop and go online can also afford to just buy a new battery when the current one looks in danger of running out...
