The legend gets in touch

A while back I was trying to track down a guy who really gave me my first break in Open Source. I knew he was called John something, but my poor hapless brain cells failed me on his surname. A dude called Kris Marsh did some digging and discovered he was John Dorman, and it all came flooding back to me.

Well, look who I got an email from today:

From: John Dorman jd@xxxxxxxxxx.xxxx

Hi Mate,

You owe me a pint do ya!??? Lol

Regards

JD

This is incredible. I have mailed back John and hope to meet up with him for that pint sometime soon. Very excited!

Ha, funny. I have been trying to track down the guy who introduced me to open source too – all i know is that i met him at a local computer club 14 years ago, and his name is – JOHN! Weird coincidence.

Funny, I just got in touch with a guy who introduced me to open source back in the late 90s. The result is that I will be leaving my current job and OS X for a lower payed job developing in Java using Ubuntu as platform :)

weird I don’t remember who he/she was. But for some reason I haven’t been able to get me a “mentor”, although I never really look for one. I think the first person was someone that gave me a BSD CD although she was “just trying it too”.
