Jono,

Fresh from reading "The Cathedral and the Bazaar" - do you think that the Open Source community have created a workable blueprint that other 'fields of interest' should attempt to replicate?

I'm definitely in the same boat as you when it comes to the potential of the community to provide, and would love to see the successes of the community expand to other academic areas. Software got the right tools first, but now software is making the new tools for other people to benefit from. I'd love to see a post on whether you think the hour is nigh for other communities to step up to the plate and try and harness their own 'potential.'
