Ubuntu One Developer Evening In Manchester On Thursday

Everyone knows what Ubuntu One is, right? While you may know it as the system for syncing your files, contacts, notes, and bookmarks, and where you can buy and stream music, Ubuntu One is also a comprehensive developer platform. With it you can utilize pretty much all of these services right from your app, and Ubuntu One brings some pretty compelling opportunities to desktop, web, and mobile apps.

Didn’t know this? Well, fasten your seatbelts.

On Thursday 1st September at 7pm in Lecture Theatre C014 at Manchester Metropolitan University the ever-enjoyable Stuart Langridge will be giving a presentation about how to write applications that harness Ubuntu One. He will talk about the different APIs, how to write web, desktop and mobile apps using the technology, and the interesting ways in which Ubuntu One can empower your apps.

In addition to this there will be a chance to have a few drinks afterwards, get to know the attendees and the Manchester techn community, and have a great time.

To join, register on eventbrite and also see the lanyrd link.

Ubuntu One would be nice, if it would work. I use it since beginning on 2-3 machines and file sync always have some problems. For me it never worked as good as Dropbox or Wuala

  • Jeff Briggs

Same for me. I have tried it in every Ubuntu release so far and every time I have just given up and installed Dropbox instead. Ubuntu One is no more “free”  than Dropbox is, so it makes sense to just use the better, more reliable service, which is Dropbox by quite a margin.

I have U1 syncing my code projects without a problem. What exactly doesn’t work for you @openid-100802:disqus and @7e4bd462461e1e8659b22824488b1de9:disqus ?

Crashes, sometimes file sync doesn’t work. At the moment I test 11.10 and every few seconds there is a notification bubble which told me that me file get synced. But it’s always the same file

I am not denying there has been some very disappointing stability issues, but I have found that Natty resolve pretty much all of those, and U1 is working great in Oneiric.

That was a bug from a few weeks ago I think

When it works its great, but I had to xfer all my files to Amazon cloud. At least it works, nowhere near as nice, but it works. U1 has been transferring the same file for days now. The popup is a constant reminder its not working.

Since you seems to concentrate on Qt/qml please at least create easy way to integrate with qt apps, like muon (new package manager in kubuntu)

There is more and more focus on Qt for sure, and I am not sure where the U1 integrations stands from that perspective.

It would be nice to have a Ubuntu One Dev event in the U.S. specifically the west coast.
